- Alignment: Tay Bac Urban (Cu Chi District) – Highway 22th – Tay Ninh Bus Terminal – Truong Chinh – Tham Luong – Cach Mang Thang Tam – Pham Hong Thai – Le Lai – Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem.
- Total length: 48 km.
- Project is currently separated into 3 phases:
a) Phase 1: Ben Thanh – Tham Luong
- Total length: 11.3 km (including 9.3 km underground and 2 km elevated)
- Number of station: 11 stations (including 10 underground stations and 01 elevated station)
- Tham Luong Depot and workshop at Tan Thoi Nhat ward, District 12 with 25 ha area (sharing depot with metro line 6)
- Donors: ADB, EIB, KFW.
- Total investment cost (adjusted): 2.0748 billion USD (being adjusting).
- Bidding work: including 8 main packages.
+ CP0 package: Relocation of technical infrastructure system
+ CP1 package: The official building and auxiliary works at Tham Luong depot.
+ CP2 package: Infrastructure at Tham Luong depot.
+ CP3 package (including CP3a and CP3b): Tunnels and Underground stations.
+ CP4 package: Transition Structure, Viaduct and Elevated Station.
+ CP5 package: E&M system.
+ CP6 package: Track work.
+ CP7 package: Non-System E&M.
- Implementation progress:
+ Project Adjustment:
· The Prime Minister approved the principle of project adjustment.
· Project Adjustment Documents: estimated to be submitted for appraisement at the end of 2016.
+ Bidding:
· CP0: implementing selection of bidders and award the contract at the end of 2016.
· CP1: expected to complete construction of buildings in 12/2016.
· CP2, CP3a, CP3b, CP4, CP5, CP6:
Updating and complete bidding documents.
Publishing bidding documents of CP5 in 12/2016.
Publishing bidding documents of CP3a, CP3b and CP7 in quarter I/2017.
+ Site handing over: expected in 07/2017
b) Phase 2: Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem Section and Tham Lương – Tay Ninh Bus Terminal Section.
- Total length of 02 sections: 9.1 km (including 4.2 km underground and 4.9 km elevated)
- Number of station: 9 stations (including 6 underground stations and 3 elevated stations)
- Tham Luong Depot and workshop at district 12
- Total investment cost (estimated): 1.482 billion USD.

- Implementation progress: Pre-Feasibility Study of whole line has been finished.
c) Phase 3: Tay Ninh Bus Terminal – Tay Bac Urban Area.
- Total length: 28 km (elevated)
- Number of station: 22 elevated stations
- Phuoc Hiep Depot and workshop at Cu Chi district.
- Total investment cost (estimated): 2.714 billion USD.

- Implementation progress: Completing the final report of the Pre-Feasibility Study.
